Ten Exercise Myths To Get You Thinking!

Ten Exercise Myths To Get You Thinking!

Ten-Exercise-Myths

Whether you’re going into summer or winter, looking good is a priority! Wasting time is a big NO NO. And, frankly that is what many gurus do, waste your time. So, here are ten exercise myths to avoid which will save you time, money, and, dignity!!

  • Having a Cardio Machine is a good way of counting calories burnt – Unfortunately, the amount of calories burnt depends on quite a few variables such as your gender or fitness levels and even B.M.I. Does your machine check those details!

  • Heart Rate Monitors Tell You How hard you are working –  These machines can fluctuate depending on what machine you are using. A more generally accurate way would be to speak whilst exercising. If you can say much, a little more intensity might be required!

  • Losing Weight Is The Best Destination – You know that muscle weighs more than fat, right? Therefore, if you exercise you might actually develop more muscle, causing you to weigh more….A better solution might be to measure your waist size, a trimmer waist might mean you’ve lost unwanted fat. Or, at least, that you’re looking better!

  • Low Intensity Exercise Is Best For Losing Fat – Higher Intensity Exercise burns more carbohydrates. You won’t burn the fat if your body has plenty of sugar to use, so increase the intensity to eliminate the blood sugars then you’ll start using the fat for energy.

  • Have A Protein Shake After a Workout – Here, at Window Cleaning Perth, we struggle to apply this one. Protein shakes are convenient and taste great. However, they are highly processed and low in quality. Better to have lean protein such as chicken, yoghurt or nuts!

  • You Can Eat Whatever You Want If You Exercise – Muscles burn energy long after the exercise stops which is a good thing. However, you have to walk a long way to burn off a Big Mac. So, whilst you don’t want to overly restrict calories, have a balanced amount of natural, highly quality nutrients in your diet.

  • You Can Spot Reduce Fat – Muscle memory limits the effectiveness of just going over the same routine time and time again. Try compound exercises to curtail this problem and reduce overall fat storage.

  • Cardio is THE BEST way to lose weight – Remember that we said muscle burns more calories than fat? Cardio doesn’t do a great deal to build muscle. Therefore, keep weight training in your routine, it will burn more calories when you ARE NOT exercising.

  • Do Cardio In The Morning On An Empty Stomach – If you don’t eat before you exercise, your body will be in a more relaxed state and will be burning few calories. Better to spike your metabolism before you workout by having a nutritious breakfast at least half an hour before exercise.

  • Drink Ice Cold Water To Lose Weight – There is no proof that cold water will burn more calories than room temperature water. However, on a hot day, water that is a LITTLE cooler can be refreshing!
